The Interview With Mrs.V

Q: Where are you from?
A: I am from America. The state that I live in is Michigan.

Q: Why do you come from such a long distance to work in China?
A: We came to China to meet people, to talk with people, to develop relationships with Chinese people and students. China is the country that my husband has been dreaming of for a very long time. So we came together.

Q: Would you please tell us what抯 the biggest difference between Chinese students and American students? What is the reason?
A: Almost all the students in China work hard and do well in their studies. Because it is harder to get into a good college in China. And if you don抰 go to a good college in China, you will probably not have a good job in the future. But actually, American students don抰 have so much pressure.

Q: How can you manage to conduct a class nicely in a wheelchair?
A: Well, some people might think that Mrs.V should not be a teacher because she is in a wheelchair and it is hard for her. But I enjoy being a teacher even though I am in a wheelchair, because I think it gives me the opportunity to show the students how important it is to achieve their goals no matter what kinds of hard things such as an accident or a tragedy happen in their lives.

Q: Can you tell us some about the unforgettable experience which made you become disabled? How did you feel during that time?
A: One of my spinal cord bones actually burst into many pieces during an accident when I was sixteen years old. I could move my legs a little but not enough to stand up and move around. I was sad, angry, bitter and depressed because I would not be normal again.

Q: You look very optimistic now. How did you face the difficulty and overcome it after the accident?
A: I've just realized that God had allowed me to have an accident so that I could learn valuable lessons. It took a lot of time for me to get out of sadness. It was really a long process. Fortunately, I had an opportunity to speak to many audiences because I was a public speaker in America. I went into schools, churches, and hospitals to share my story of hope and joy with 100 or even 3000 people. Only 6 months after the accident when I was sixteen, I started this job, which encouraged and helped me a lot especially when my mother died of cancer because I knew how to go through tragedies.

Q: You are not only a very firm person but also an excellent teacher, we like your class-English Drama very much, what do you want to say to your students?
A: You are so eager to learn, which has impressed me a lot. I hope you can improve yourselves and become more excellent.

Q: Thank you. We hope you can have a wonderful time in Beijing.
